Long Night of Museums

On 9 November 1989, the Wall came down in Berlin after 28 years. In addition to this great self-liberation of the people, a small self-liberation took place that evening in the »International« cinema. In the DEFA film »Coming Out«, the subject of homosexuality was dealt with openly for the first time in the GDR. The film by Heiner Carow shows the love of two men sensitively but clearly. Homosexual relationships were not forbidden in the GDR, but it was hardly possible to talk about them in public. The time was ripe for this wall to fall. We are showing the film at 11 pm in our museum. There will also be short guided tours at 7, 9 and 10 pm on the subject of »Secret Wandlitz«, where the state and party leadership of the GDR lived, shielded from the public.
